The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in utilizing replay systems.
Replay systems will be launched at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Players are granted the right to challenge specific decisions from the official, mirroring the protocol currently in operation at both the US Open and the Aussie major.
The new system will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles contests.
This development follows just a year after the All England Club rolled out electronic line calling, which terminated the 147-year tradition of line judges.
Scope of Challenges
Players will not be permitted to dispute the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to re-examine other decisions, such as:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball made contact with an rival's racket or person on the way past.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.
Importantly, there is an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a player can ask for.
A Recent Example
An illustrative example occurred in a recent tournament last week, where a top player used the video challenge against his opponent.
Draper conceded it was a difficult call for the official, but believed his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, awarding the point to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews implemented at every one of its events.
Other Changes
A further change at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This addresses situations where fans have sometimes been unsure if a shot was out or in.
In other news, with precisely 100 days to go until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have further revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
