Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Officers then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.

A senior representative commented the attack left him without words and required to be addressed quickly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
